Eligibility Requirements
- Be a permanent resident of Canada
- Have lived in Canada for 3 out of the last 5 years (1,095 days)
- Have filed income taxes for at least 3 years
- Pass the citizenship test (if aged 18-54)
- Demonstrate language skills in English or French
- No serious criminal history

Citizenship Test
Applicants aged 18-54 must pass a citizenship test covering Canadian history, values, institutions, and symbols.
Test Format: 20 multiple-choice questions, 30 minutes to complete, 75% passing score required
Important Information
- • You can apply for citizenship after 3 years as a permanent resident
- • Time spent in Canada before becoming a PR counts as half-time (max 365 days)
- • You must be physically present in Canada for 183 days in 4 of the 6 years before applying
- • Dual citizenship is allowed - you don't have to give up your original citizenship
- • Processing times may vary based on individual circumstances
